Topic: Introduce Yourself / C Mariahn Scarborough I am a teacher who would teach for free. In fact I do this all the time – I am currently teaching a dance class pretty much for free. But, I love classroom teaching. I recently got my Masters Degree in Education and I am looking for a classroom of my own. |

Topic: Support and Feedback / Feeds are broken Hi Dave, I’m sorry about the trouble with the feeds. They should be fixed now. The trouble was because I switched hosting providers, but I think I have it all worked out now. Daniel |

Topic: Support and Feedback / Feeds are broken Hi There, I like this site, thanks for creating it. You may already know this but the feeds section is broken (at least for me!). I set some up early last week but then when I came back later in the week I got the “we’re sorry, something went wrong…” message. I’m still getting it. DAVE |

Topic: Support and Feedback / Feedback and suggestions Hi Javier, \012I’ve finally gotten around to addressing this comment: You can now hide/show the form and the app will remember whether you want to hide or show the “new opportunity” form. |

Topic: Support and Feedback / Feedback and suggestions Hi Daniel, \012Thanks for the app. I just started to use it but I believe it has a great potential. \012Suggestion: I would love to be able to subscribe to my opportunities calendar using Google Calendar. Would you add this to your list, please? \012Thanks once more. |

Topic: Introduce Yourself / Hi everyone Heh, it probably did. The first time I got laid off I didn’t have much confidence when interviewing. The second time, I had a more “let’s get down to business” attitude, and internally I didn’t have “room” for feeling unconfident. If that makes sense :) It seemed to help, making the interviews go much better and helping me get through the job search process without getting bummed. |

Topic: Introduce Yourself / Intro @Jennifer: This site uses the “Savage Beast” forum for Ruby on Rails. Pretty intense name for forum software :-P What programming languages does your web server support? It probably supports PHP, in which case you’d probably want to go with the phpBB forum software. \012@Rusty: Welcome! That’s a good question about whether your data’s going to be shared with competitors. Initially, I actually had thought that it would be useful to have a “you might be interested in these opportunities” feature, which would essentially share the opportunities entered by other people. However, I quickly realized that most people, like you, would not want to increase their competition. Even though I haven’t added a privacy policy, you have my word that none of your data will be shared with other members of this site. \012If you develop a way to synchronize the data here with something offline, please do let me know! \012Regarding the image, I think you have to sign up with gravatar.com and upload one there. It’s really easy and takes maybe 2 minutes. \012Thanks for joining, and I hope you find the site useful! |

Topic: Introduce Yourself / Intro Hi Daniel & Hi wdupree: I count myself very blessed. For now I’m still “permanently” employed and my ailments are no more severe than inherited baldness and seasonal allergic rhinitis (sniffles). Daniel – thank you for harvesting something positive from your experiences and sharing it with others. I always like to think of losing a job as regaining my freedom – there are many things I can do (well, too) so it’s truly fine to be able to go do some of those until the need to be gainfully employed becomes crushingly important. Please, both of you, keep up the chatter; I think you add a valuable reminder of the vignette “I felt sorry for myself because I had no shoes, until I met someone who had no feet.” |

Topic: Introduce Yourself / Intro How did Jennifer post her picture to this forum? I have a photo (now of me, since I don’t any longer have to use my picture of sonia banyuls on my page, given that I finally got a digital image of me) on my google account, my yahoo account, etc, and I would like to post it to this forum. |

Topic: Introduce Yourself / Intro Hi Daniel & Hi Jennifer The call me Rusty (From the Spanish “Me llamaron Rusty”, usually too loosely translated as “my name is Rusty”, but literally “They call me Rusty”) I’m awake early this morning and very excited to tell a story – how my Saturday progressed from a minor power outage to coffee with friends to collecting wife and neighbors from the Rochester NY airport (ROC) to washing both our cars as the temperatures briefly ceilinged near 40 df, shovelling our drive and the three “eyesores” I have to look at across the street and many nice walks with our 17-years old pup, Lady Pepper. In the evening, I researched how to build an igloo, and Sunday (that’s today, already) there just won’t be enough time for me to gather/up snow, pack blocks in my choice of molds and build windbreaks and some iglu type structures all over this neighborhood. \012Someone in our local community (PeernetRochester.org) posted a link to your site, and I’m curious. What gurantees me that if I use this “service” then I’m not just putting up the leads I have developed for some competitor to harvest ?? I haven’t seen any privacy guarantees. It is interesting, and a needed tool. I would like to see it made available as and Excel template. Maybe that will be my niche. To preserve the community aspect of your effort, I would like to make it possible for future users to move easily between their online collaboration with your service and any private grid they choose to maintain on their own computer. \012Thanks & All th’ e-Best™, |

Topic: Introduce Yourself / Hi everyone Hi wdupree! I really hope it’s helping you. If you have any questions about it please let me know. \012If you don’t mind my asking, what are you ill with? I hope that’s not too personal a question; I suppose I’m desensitized to that kind of thing since I’m around it all the time ;) \012Aikido really is great. There are a lot of videos on youtube you can check out. I’d also recommend reading “The Way of Aikido” by George Leonard. It’s part of what got me really interested, and has a lot of useful life concepts in it. For example, he talks about “taking the hit as a gift”. The idea is that unforeseen, negative events (like losing a job) impart you with a lot of emotional energy. You can recognize the extra energy you have and use it towards a positive end. That’s actually what I tried to do with this site, in fact. \012Anywho, it’s nice to meet you :) Please do let me know if there’s anything I can help with. |

Topic: Introduce Yourself / Intro First of all, it was a newspaper and one of it’s kind for the area. Since the job market has changed, I had to cancel that end of things. Now, just on-line and nation-wide – still a challenge, but hope it improves. My motivation is to be able be home for my children ages 2 and 6. I, too in the past have been laid off by 2 very good firms in the corporate sector of things, ages ago – yet, something you don’t forget! I’ve worked at a staffing agency and for one. I love graphic design and helping businesses achieve advertising results. Daniel, how did you create or power this forum?? I’m working on right now, downloaded a program, we’ll see if I can figure out – if not, any tips?? |

Topic: Introduce Yourself / Hi everyone Well…I’d like to say that I find your story pretty inspiring…especially since I just got laid off after 13 years at my agency (which is closing after 105 years in business), AND I’m chronically ill myself! So, I’m always looking for ways to reduce my stress! This website is a great idea and, as I get more used to it, I’m sure it will make my life less complicated! |
